I usually struggle to remember what I have done in all but the last 5 minutes of a match
never mind what was going on on the rest of the pitch for a whole game so appologies if this
report is a little thin on the details or it sounds like I was at a different match from
everyone else ...........
When we arrived at Denham United Football club only one thing was certain - it was going to
be a muddy match ( Harriet was in her element .... ). Denham Ladies (although they were all
young, fit under 16 year olds) got off to a good start and put a lot of pressure on in the first
10 minutes. Fortunately for us the few times they got past our defense all their shots were either
saved comfortably by Sarah or sailed over the crossbar or wide. About 15 minutes in, with what
was possibly our first real offensive Heidi put an excellent shot in to the top corner of the
net - 1-0 to BAWFC. Shortly afterwards Char scored our second (sorry I can't remember the
details) and after this Denham seemed to fade. We had a number of other near misses (one particularly
memerable header from Kirsty was scrambled of the goal line by their Goalie) and then Harriet
scored out third Goal. We went in at half time 3-0 up (although it could have been a least a
couple more). Also in the first half Jane got a knock on the head while coming back to help
in defense ( I hope your neck is OK today Jane) and towards the end of the first half Kirtsy came on to
replace Jane at right wing.
Amrik made a couple of changes at half time to move Nav to right midfield and Char to the left.
Kirsty up front and Harriet into Midfield and we went into the second half feeling quite confident
------ oops.
The first 10 minutes of the second half didn't go as planned. Denham came out a different team -
much more aggressive, much more focussed and within the first five minutes they looped a shot in from
the right hand side over Sarah's head and scored. A couple of minutes later (can't remember the details)
they scored again. Our lead now reduced to 1 goal the pressure was on, we really had to dig in and defend
well - and we did . About 10 minutes later Char scored her second goal - 4-2 to BAWFC. Preeti and Char
swapped back to their original positions at some point (not sure when) . We managed soak up all the pressure
and hold this score line until about 4 minutes from the end when Nav tackled just inside the penalty area and
was unlucky to have a penalty awarded against us - 4-3 to BAWFC. This lead to a very tense final 3 minutes
where we saw one Denham shot sail just above the crossbar (phew). But the fulltime whistle eventually came -
Final result a well earned win : BAWFC 4 - Denham Ladies 3.
Overall an excellent match which I really enjoyed. Every single BA player on the pitch worked really hard and
I think we all had a good match with some good passing. Particular mention should go to .... Sarah for all her
cracking saves (there were a lot) ; Preeti and Line were excellent in central defence - they seemed to be everywhere;
Suzie worked really hard at left back and made some great clearances; Harriet, Char and Heidi for scoring great goals
and some close misses; Kirsty for coming very close to scoring and distracting the goalie so that Char could score.
Stacy and Nav for controlling the midfield (along with Char and Nav) and coming back to help us out in defense on numerous
occassions. Stacy also for shouting a lot ( I really was trying to get back honestly). And Jane for working hard in midfield
in the first half. Thanks also to all our supporters Steve, Luke and Elaine for all their shouts of encouragement from the side line.
OK so everyone deserved a special mention ..........
If anyone of the goal scorers wants to add in some extra details of how you scored - feel free.
Well done everyone - 2 wins in two matches - now lets carry this form on into the rest of the league.
