Despite the score line we put in an overall great performance. It was difficult conditions
to play in as it was very windy and the opposition were mostly half our age. We started the
first half with the advantage of the wind behind us and it showed in our performance. We
played well and the opposition didn’t have many chances, but unfortunately they scored on one
of them and the rest of their chances were saved by Sara, who had great game. Unfortunately we
didn’t capitalise on all of our chances and it took a great kick from Danni to score the
equaliser. She hit from very far out and it seemed to be in the air for ages and I think we all
held our breath until it went in over the goal keeper – great goal.
So we went in to half time 1-1 and we knew that we had a struggle on our hands for the second
half as we now had to play against the wind. The opposition took advantage of this and started
attacking us a lot. That number 12 from Morden was very fast and skilful. So we had to defend a
lot more and the midfield where drawn back in to defence. Also when we did regain possession and
tried to get the ball forward the ball due to the wind it didn’t exactly go where it was supposed to
and we struggled a lot more at retaining possession. Unfortunately they managed to score three more
goals. However Harriet did manage to score a consolation goal with under 10 minutes to go when Harriet
and Charlotte displayed some fantastic play together down the right hand side and Heidi managed to
confuse the defenders at the same time.
However I know we lost, but there are many positive things to take from the game. We all
fought very hard and played well together. We are getting better at communication although
due to the wind we couldn’t always hear each other. We managed to catch them offside numerous
times. (Their first goal was scored after their player was actually off side).
Petra has already gone through the thanking of everyone, so I won’t repeat her messages.
However she has not herself been thanked, so I would like to thank her on behalf of the rest
of the team; for her hard work in midfield, for her help at coming back into defence to help
out and also for her optimism and encouragement. She enhances the morale of the team – Well done
Petra.
