Having beaten this opposition 6nil in a friendly a few weeks back the Team were very optimistic about getting another 3 points this Sunday. A few new faces strengthened the opposition side but that didn’t stop BAWFC looking threatening from kick off. A great ball from Lucy Gibson from the kickoff saw our first opportunity on goal but Nav Johal’s shot was comfortable for the Hanworth keeper.
It was pretty much the same story again with BA creating chances but making it easy for the Hanworth keeper to keep us from scoring a goal. She could only keep the home side in the game for a short time though, Kirsty Martin’s through-ball found Gilly Thompson one on one with the keeper and she made it 1nil to BAWFC! It didn’t take long for BA to get their second with another fantastic through-ball from Kirsty, this time Liz Foster through on goal. Her shot was saved by the keeper but Gilly was first to the rebound and slotted it into the back of the net making it 2nil BA!
BA wasted a few more opportunities but went into half time confident after a good 1st half performance. The 2nd half saw the opposition come out slightly the better team but this didn’t stop BA looking threatening. BA had to wait until substitute Olive Nwachukwuguru came on midway through the 2nd half for the 3rd. Olive having an instant impact and easing past the Hanworth defence before being fouled in the box for a penalty. Liz Foster stepped up and made it 3 from the spot!
BA made their 2nd substitute of the game with new signing Danni Cross coming on upfront. Hanworth didn’t give up and gave the BA defence a hard time, a bit of a mix up in defence saw Hanworth get a goal making it 3-1. BA didn’t drop their heads, they carried on playing attacking football and took any hope away of a Hanworth come back with Gilly Thompson getting her hatrick. Gilly found herself through on goal after a great ball from Olive. A confident Gilly took it round the keeper to top off her excellent performance with 3 goals.
The match certainly wasn’t one-way traffic like a few weeks ago but again another impressive performance from the BA girls. And great to let our football doing the talking again girls.
