Game: BAWFC Reserves vs. Clapton Orient Reserves
Author: Belinda
Player of the match: Karen
Considering I only remembered at the end of the match that I had to write
this up, I am going to struggle to remember anything! Here are the
highlights I can recall with a few facts (after consulting Nav)
We started off with an organised warm-up by Majid, followed by some
passing, goal scoring practice and a few corners. Obviously a good start
to a good match.
The rest is a bit of a blur. Lee won the toss (for once, the practice
must have paid off!!!) and made sure Julia was out of the sun for the
first half. Most of the play seemed to be on the right hand side, with
Lee doing some great clearances, Preeti sweeping up everything, Belinda
calling the ball hers and then not really going for it (good job the
bounce wasn't too high) and Cindy marking the two players on the other
side. Char had a great run down the right hand side and with a shot which
was only just saved by their keeper.
Jane was taken down at one point, managing to get hit on her bad ankle.
She hobbled off, to come back on after a minute but obviously in pain.
Nav covered the middle well and when Karen was taken down just outside the
box, took our first free-kick of the match. Apparently Karen, Jane and
Marie obstructed the keepers view allowing the free-kick to go in (just
like Lou's do).
Petra and Char then swapped sides of the pitch, Marie had a shot but then
it was half-time and we should have scored a lot more.
At half-time, Lou came on for Marie, and Nav went up front. Don't know
what happened at half-time (Note from editor: oranges?), but the defenders
lost their ability to clear the ball in the right direction. The
opposition had a few attempts to
ruin the defenders' clean sheet stopped by Cindy doing a great sliding
tackle from behind, Lee doing a fast run back after they cleared the ball
from our corner, and Julia diving (to her favoured side the right) and
preventing their major attempt at goal.
Our second goal came from Karen taking the ball down and then passing it
over to Nav for her to tap in. It could have been yours, Karen. Petra had
a rebound come out to her (good positioning) but unfortunately just tapped
it over the bar.
We then got another corner, which Petra took. It sailed into the box
where Karen, a defender and their keeper were scrabbling for it when quick
feet Nav stabbed it into the goal. Hat trick (and the only goal I do
remember seeing).
Jane had to hobble off in the second half and was replaced by Jacinta who
then seemed to have all the play down the left hand side.
Char came off for Danni for the last 15 minutes but still time for her to
just miss putting a header into the back of the net, have a tantrum when
taken down in the box, be told off by the ref, and be called off side!!!!
Eventful but funny 15 minutes.
Sorry about this write-up and if I missed anyone out.
