Game: BAWFC Reserves vs Garston 3rds
Author: Jane Little
Player of the match: Heidi
The match started on a high with both teams looking for a win after a 1-1 draw the previous week. Things started well after BA came out strong from the off. With the strong combination of Jenny, Kirsty, Petra and Heidi in midfield and Jane and Lee up front it was only a matter of time before BA shone through and scored. 20 minutes into the first half Heidi took a great corner and crossed it into the box for it to be deflected in off one of Garston’s own players. With a strong combination at the back of Annita, Suzie, Simone and Jo it wasn’t going to be easy for Garston to come back.... Due to a good chip forward they did indeed manage this and scored making it 1-1. After a good pass from Petra to Jane she was in the box ready to pass when she was brought down! A penalty to the girls! Heidi stepped up to take a blast at the goal: fortunately for the keeper she didn’t have to save it or she would have no hand, unfortunately for us it went over the crossbar. Julia proved herself to bit of a "Dudek" with some fab saves bouncing around the area with those magic hands. Against the run of play Garston managed to get a 2nd goal before the whistle was blown for half time.
Annita and Suzie were replaced at half time by Karen and Nav with new fresh legs (freshly shaven so they were quicker) who helped BA come out even stronger and had a shot come off the bar which denied them a 2nd goal. The goals were coming whether Garston liked it or not. Not wanting to miss out Garston also had a shot hit the cross bar and bounce on the line to be cleared by some great defending. After what appeared to be an out of play ball and a bit of a scramble BA was 3-1 down. This certainly didn’t deflate the girls who just picked themselves up and fought hard to get back in the game with the midfield working hard. BA knew it was coming and after some fine one twos between Nav and Heidi number 2 was scored by Nav (2-3)(at this point the crowd went crazy) after picking the ball out of the net number 3 was coming and no one was going to stop BA. Some excellent play all round with BA dominating the 2nd half, Nav was on a mission and after some fine foot work from Karen and Heidi (Ed's note: and Petra who put the pass through to Nav), number 3 was home and dry (3-3 and the crowd really lost the plot now). The girls weren’t happy with this and strived for number 4 putting Garston under immense pressure with shots hitting the post, going wide and their keeper on over-time surely number 4 was coming. After a chip forward from Garston one of their forwards took a shot and Julia "Dudek" had it covered but it was unfortunate that it took a deflection off one of our players to go into the back of the net. (3-4) Minutes later the full time whistle blew with an unfair result of 3-4 considering they had dominated most of the game. Look out Enfield next week, the girls are angry..........
