Bright and early in the sunshine, we were like glistening diamonds ready to shine...... could this be the end of the goal drought that the Reserves have been suffering?

Make up and hair band ready, I was certainly gunning for some action (get it, GUNNING... Gunners... best team in the world... anyway...) Acton were looking strong straight from kick off - piling on the pressure in the first 10 minutes, which resulted in an early goal after we failed to clear despite Julia’s solid attempt to stop the ball slotting into the back of the net.

Hair band slips off. Petra screams. Hair band gets quickly sorted. Play can continue although blinded by hair band (honestly... I’m going to write to Nike).

So, we started making some good attacks through Kim and Natasha in the 1st half. Imi came off from injury. Acton however were looking dominant and we conceded about 4 goals in 15 minutes. Big SIGH, but no hands on hips here!

More sighs of relief came when they played a great through ball which was chipped over Julia and just missed the goal! Bit unlucky really to be fair.

Acton were graced with two own-goals - from Kirsty and Silvia (chin up girls), but we continued the battle and gradually got back into it albeit with a few players (Petra!) falling over on the day obviously through the sheer excitement of not being 20-0 down in the first 20 minutes!

At half-time we were 7-0 down :(

After some much needed oranges and a team talk, Roger switched Sivlia to centre mid and put striker Karen on at right back. This proved to make some difference. We produced some excellent team work and conceded ONLY two more goals, but we just couldn't score! Mind you neither could the Acton striker put up front in the 2nd half so we were looking good!

Unfortunately, Acton’s defence held firm and 15 minutes in, a throw on from Acton led to an early 2nd half goal - 8-0.

Hair band holding up - just (mainly from sweat and turmoil).

Acton wasted more than a few more chances up front as we continued to battle it out all over the pitch....BUT an impressive strike gave them their 9-0 win.

The sun was still shining. And we were proud that we gave it everything we had. Lipstick included :)
