Well the afternoon started well, with no-pull outs or injuries before kick off! But then I lost the toss and was hoping that was not the way things were going to go for the afternoon…! With some of the first team braving the cold to support us, we had a great team on the sidelines for encouragement.

Within 5 mins of kick-off, Petra decided she needed some extra attention…, so after a ball hit her in the face, had a rather large nose bleed. After considering shoving tissue up her nose, the bleeding stopped and Petra rejoined us on the pitch.

With Hendon’s first drive toward goal, they recognised Julia as a threat, so when she went to collect the ball their forward stood on Julia’s hand and as she was staggering to get up, pushed the ball past her.

After the ball happened upon the defence again, I managed to launch the ball forward (more like a hit and hope!), Cherelle chased it down and managed to get on the end of it to slot it into the net. Congratulations Cherelle on your first goal for the reserves.. many more to come! Was this the start of the goaling spree…..?

It was another occasion when we had another corner that Lilian pushed forward from right back to give Petra another option to aim at. Petra’s cross went in, and bounded around in the box before Lilian instinctively kicked the ball toward goal and scored! Well done Lilian on your supporting role down the right wing and for your first goal!

Then came half time, and our motivational half-time talk from Roger. The gist of it was that we needed to stay switched on, and keep calm, and we had our first 3 points of the season!… Easier said than done…

Well, we maintained our first half pressure for 15 mins although we were playing mostly in our defence and when the ball happened to be bumbling around in front of goal, we gave them one too many chances to shoot and before we knew it the ball was in the back of the net.

We fought and fought to get that next goal to make it a win for us, but could not convert, so we had to be happy with one point, which we are. There are plenty of positives to draw from in the game, and we hope we can build on all of these to come away with a win at the next occasion we meet Hendon Reserves.
