Right, my first match report so here goes….
After watching the first team have a great first half we headed over to our pitch to warm up for our game during which we got distracted by watching the second half of the first team's game. So once warmed up and after being told to beat the first team's 5-1 score by Mandip we started with a high spirit and enthusiastically. However somehow during the first half hour we were 5-0 down I think. At which point Kim had a fantastic run down the right wing which she crossed only for Karen to unfortunately miss kick - but was saved by a nice shot in by Petra, so at least we got 1 back. This goal I think made us play better because the last 10 minutes of the first half were pretty good with us having a few shots, which were sadly saved by their keeper, and Kim having a one-on-one with the keeper although regrettably she didn't manage to see it through.
We came off from the first half feeling we should have had a couple more goals as we had created more chances, but with a talk from Roger and another team huddle we felt we could continue and try and get more goals back second half. We came off thinking the score was 5-1 until we went back on and the ref said it was actually 6-1.
The second half saw some great defending by us and some good saves from Jacinta. We managed to force quite a few corners however they didn’t result into anything. Lynsie had some good runs down the right wing and kept up the spirit encouraging us to battle on while myself and Anna tried to create chances that were often thwarted by the Magpies defence.
In defence Jo managed to hurt herself a couple of times with a ball in the face and a good body block which I think may have winded her but it looked good so it’s all cool.
Anna got pulled up when going for the ball when a Magpies player also trying to get the ball fell over, and yes Anna, it weren’t your fault - she’s smaller than you, as you told the ref.
Nearer the end of the match we were awarded a free-kick which I took but which was unfortunately saved by their keeper. We continued till the end of the game with such a high team spirit and were disappointed not to have got more goals for our side but I’m sure we’ll do better next week.
All in all we tried hard but conceded 8 or 9 goals, can’t remember to be honest and rushed off to the bar after to catch the second half of the Carling Cup final in which happily Spurs beat Chelsea, so at least they had a good game - wooo J
