It was a very nice day. I recall clear skies and the sun shining. Then came me and told the whole team how good the Fulham Deaf team have been in their friendlies, not a good move. Anyway, as we waited for Fulham's kit to arrive from Fulham we got chatting to the ref and warmed up ready to show our respect to a team that are doing well. Fulham warmed up whilst still in jeans, and we kept kicking the ball around until it was time to play the game.
Somehow I forgot most of the first half; all I remember is every shot they got was on target and almost in every corner of the goal. It wasn't because we didn't play well; when we kept the ball it was good stuff, it was just that we didn't keep the ball much in that half.
Anyway, half-time and much to Lee's, the captain's liking, I told them the score: 0-8. Ouch I hear you cry. And I am sure most the team would have cried if given the chance. But no, we took in our drinks and oranges. Then a firm wake up call: "work hard to win the ball and show that you want to play this game." Su was waiting very eager to get on the pitch as she arrived late due to the underground improvements. D'oh.
Anyway the starting 11 went on the pitch my words I feel ringing still in their ears ("work hard to win the ball and play our football and then you will enjoy it"). But what happens about 5 minutes in? No, we don't score but Fulham do!
But credit to the team where credit is due: the heads did not drop and BAWFC gave a great performance: very entertaining stuff and everyone there enjoyed watching this BA side. Then the turning point, the eagerly awaited Sudaff came on. BAWFC was having so much fun on the pitch, it seemed only 20 minutes had been played. Then Su got the ball with just one player to beat and she did very easily, then, calmly as you could, she put in the ball past the keeper. Yeahhhhhhhh
Then, just as the we thought we could get our second, at the Fulham kick-off the whistle went. Booooooo ;-) But there you go when BAWFC play football they really can play. Shame it is always the second half. So second half finished 1-1, but was 1-9 overall (although mitoo says 1-10?)
Anyway we finished all buzzing and I noticed the sunny sky again.
This match report was brought to by Matthew and the letter A and 2 pints of coke and 5 packets of crisps ...
